Dibdin, Charles
(4 mar. 1745, Southampton, Hampshire, Inglaterra–25 jul. 1814, Londres).

Compositor, novelista y actor británico. Corista catedralicio, a los 15 años empezó a trabajar para una editorial de música y en 1762 comenzó su carrera actoral. Su primera opereta fue El artificio del pastor (1764). En 1778, cuando devino compositor exclusivo del Covent Garden, ya había producido ocho óperas, entre ellas, The Padlock (1768), The Waterman (1774) y The Quaker (1775). Tiempo después produjo su ópera de baladas Liberty Hall. Fue autor, cantante y acompañante en sus célebres espectáculos unipersonales para comensales; la mayoría de sus populares canciones marineras fueron escritas para esas funciones. En suma, unas 100 obras teatrales y 1.400 canciones. Fue uno de los compositores británicos más populares del s. XVIII.
